MEET DR. GAHAGEN

Dr.  Heather Davis Gahagen
(she/her/hers)
Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Heather Davis Gahagen is a skilled and highly experienced Licensed Clinical Psychologist trained to assess and treat a number of psychological issues. Her specialty areas include trauma exposure (e.g., combat, first responder, natural disaster, and sexual trauma), sleep challenges (e.g., insomnia, nightmares, CPAP adherence), anxiety, phase of life transitions, identity exploration (e.g. gender and sexuality), educational challenges (e.g., organization, time management, or ‘imposter syndrome’),  and assessment (e.g.attention difficulties, hormone readiness).  Dr. Gahagen partners with her clients to explore how past experiences have changed their outlook on themselves, others, and the world. She supports people in reducing the impact of these past events on their lives and their ability to be who they want to be.  “We can identify small changes you can make that will have ripple effects on your life each day, building to greater change over time.”  She provides her clients with tools to regain control of their lives and a sense of empowerment, ready to take on the next chapter.

Dr. Gahagen is trained/certified in various therapy modalities, including CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy), Skills for Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Insomnia (CBT-I), Image Rehearsal Therapy + Narrative Therapy (IRT+NT) for Nightmares, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Advanced Safety Planning Intervention (ASPI). She enjoys working with individuals of all racial, socioeconomic, and sexual orientations and gender identities.  She has specialty experience working with military Veterans, first responders (firefighters, police, EMT), students (e.g. college, graduate school, or medical school), federal employees, and retirees. Due to her location, a great deal of her more recent work has also been with rural populations and folks who have transplanted to rural areas from larger cities.  Dr. Gahagen is one of our D.I.V.E. therapists and also a member of our Veteran C&P (Compensation & Pension) evaluation team.

Outside of work, Dr. Gahagen loves doing crafts such as knitting, painting, and cross stitch.  She considers herself a ‘Disney Adult’ and loves spending time in the parks to take breaks from reality and reconnect with her childhood sense of awe and wonder.
